Wheel Lifts And Their Similarities
Even if wheel lifts come in different kinds, there are still similarities. Take hidden wheel lifts and slide-in wheel lifts for example. Both of them have arms that go under the wheels of the vehicle to be towed. Once secured, it lifts the two front wheels or two back wheels of the vehicle.
They are great for towing vehicles at a short distance or when the road can’t accommodate a bulky tow truck. Now that we know what their similarities are, let us now focus on their differences.
Hidden Wheel-Lift
This type of wheel lift is also known as an under-mount wheel lift. It is chosen because it is out of sight. This type of wheel lift can be challenging to install because it may need to be welded to the underside of the truck.
Due to being welded to the rear of the truck, the rear receives much of the pressure from the car being towed, which can also ruin the truck in the long run.
Slide-In Wheel-Lift
Another type of wheel lift is the slide-in wheel lift, which is more preferred because it can slide into your truck bed when not in use. With this type of wheel lift, the underbody is not pressured because it sits on top of the tow truck.
The weight of the towed vehicle is better distributed when this kind of wheel lift is used. Also, this kind of wheel lift can be transferred to another truck if the current truck wears out or is no longer useful.
